We are at a standstill with a small addition (3 season room) to our home. Two weeks ago the trench for foundation was excavated... inspector would not approve footing pour due to bad soil. We have had Testing Service Corp. take soil samples down to 5 ft. below footing grade... result is still silty/clay mix (27% - 47% moisture content)... we're now facing losing the addition and out $20.000 if we can't get this foundation in... had helical piling contractor out today... he ballparked 4 piers at approx. $13,000 - $15,000.... unfortunately it's beyond the additional $$$ we can put into the project. Need option that runs under $10,000. Don't know if pricing between contractors varies by much but are desperate for a solution... otherwise, it's fill the trench back in, spend another few thousand on putting our yard back together and lick our wounds. Appreciate an opinion / advice??
