When accessing the foundation crack from the interior is not possible, foundation cracks can be excavated from the outside of the home. This involves digging from the grade level down to the foundation footing exposing the crack a minimum of 6" to both sides. The foundation wall is grinded and scraped clean. HLM 5000 waterproofing sealant is applied to the foundation surface. Once cured, a bituthane is applied and attached to the foundation surface. This is the most effective repair for sealing a crack from the exterior but unfortunately the repair does not offer any structural benefits. It is an exterior surface sealant and the foundation crack continues to exist. This type of repair is also considerably more labor intensive as well as damaging to the landscape on the exterior. USS always recommends the repairs be done by epoxy injection from the interior.
