It's not even November and we have already had a few significant snows in the Chicagoland, IL area. After last Winter, we have learned to expect almost anything. One of the last things most homeowners are thinking about is their foundation. It is a fact, however, that you should be thinking about it. Your foundation is probably the most important part of your home. When there is a lot of snow, and then that snow melts, it adds pressure around the walls of your basement foundation. This is called hydro-static pressure. This pressure from moisture around your foundation can cause your foundation walls to bow or lean in. If left long enough then they will crack and water will find it’s way into your basement.
