Steel Push Piers

THE ADVANTAGES OF STEEL PIER FOUNDATION SYSTEMS:

  • LOW COST for system and installation
  • FAST INSTALLATION than many methods
  • TIME-PROVEN, engineer designed system
  • VERY LIMITED EXCAVATION; minimal under-digging of building
  • LIGHT EQUIPMENT can be tailored to specific job needs
  • SHAFTS/COLUMNS for assorted load requirements
  • VERIFIABLE LOAD CAPACITY
  • LIMITED-ACCESS INSTALLATION

Steel piers are an excellent choice for structural foundation repairs. United Structural Systems of Chicago uses them because they are the most proven engineered product in the foundation underpinning industry today. Most foundation repairs are caused by organic soils, shrinking and swelling clays, poor compaction, improper footer embedment, and erosion. The function of steel piers is the support and stabilization of your structure’s load bearing walls by transferring the weight of the structure from weaker soils onto the steel piers that are driven deep to a load bearing stratum. United Structural Systems only uses the best quality engineered push piers on the market, the ECP Steel Pier.

Each pier is driven individually using the weight from the structure along with any soil loads available. After each pier is driven to this load bearing stratum a lift assembly is attached to each bracket placement to initiate a stabilization or lift. Individual 10,000 psi hydraulic cylinders are inserted into these lift assemblies and then attached to a manifold for a synchronized lift. This synchronized lift is a key component to a high quality push pier system. Opposed to systems that use bottle jacks, that apply uneven pressure to your foundation, a synchronized system uses a manifold and hydraulic cylinders designed for structural repairs. Engineers will tell you that manifold lifting is a must for structural repairs.

Steel piers can reach much greater depths than pressed concrete or drilled piles. This increased depth allows them to be driven below active soils. Any pier system that does not penetrate beyond these active soils should be avoided at all costs. Steel push piers are well suited for most areas, with the exception being in areas where a load bearing stratum is too deep to cost effectively justify their use. These piers have been used for decades with great success in supporting settling homes and commercial structures. While they require a large amount of training and supervision by foundation experts like United Structural Systems, resistance piers are a very reliable choice for most situations in Chicago.

Cost Effective. United Structural Systems can say with confidence that we offer a technically superior and cost-effective alternative to other repair systems. Our foundation products are backed by more than 80 years of engineering experience and expertise.

Ahead of the Competition. Our system is superior to other methods on the market. Many of these other procedures involve unnecessary cost, time, and risk by part time foundation repair companies. When other methods can leave sites damaged, United Structural Systems preserves the integrity of landscapes and walkways.

Contractor Certification. Is your contractor certified and incident free? Our staff is the best trained and the most knowledgeable in the industry. We have installed thousands of piers for satisfied customers throughout the Chicago area, and are proud to say that USS is the area's authority when it comes to the reinforcement and support of your foundation with steel resistance piers.
